The Beehive Freehouse, 30 Leopold Road, Norwich

The best kept secret in Norwich? Not now. The Beehive offers a range of quality real ales, real pub food, and the friendly atmosphere of a proper back street boozer! Plus, you can see all of Norwich City's Premier League matches on one of three screens! The pub also hosts an annual summer beer festival!

The Beehive Pub Norwich is a popular, attractive, traditional back street Norwich pub with a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a nice line in real ales, proper pub food, and comfy sofas.

While this great boozer is a little off the beaten track, it’s only (at a guess) around a 10-15 minute walk from other popular Golden Triangle pubs like the Eagle, Rose Valley, Mad Moose, Unthank Arms, and Eaton Cottage. It’s also close to the Farmhouse near Eaton Park and a healthy stroll to the Cellar House and Red Lion in Eaton village!

The pub’s Victorian exterior is clean and smart in cream and black, and it has a couple of road-side tables. There are also some handy parking spaces but the area is not in a dreaded permit zone, so it’ll be no problem planning to leave the car overnight while you sample the real ales, Belgian beers, or common popular lagers and spirits on offer.

The pub’s interior is separated into three bars and a function room. The small Snug greets you as you enter, while the busy Public Bar is to the left and the Lounge, with its range of leather sofas, is to the right. Service is good from all areas with the ever-present landlady, Alex Kerridge, and her small team offering a friendly and informed bar service.
And now punters can watch all of Norwich City's league matches during the 2011-12 Premier League season in either main bar or in the spacious function room with its 50" TV.

It's not a 'footy pub' though. It’s great to find a Norwich pub that really is a hub of the community, and the Beehive is popular with locals but has regulars from across the area, and many students frequent the pub, especially on Wednesdays for the quiz night. The free quiz – with a round of drinks the winning team's prize – must be one of the most popular in Norwich.

Other highlights include the pubs traditional darts culture (the pub has three teams in Norwich darts leagues) and monthly Tuesday night Folk music nights. It’s also home to Norwich Knights Korfball team, the Edith Cavell Lodge and local running club meetings. But perhaps best of all, the growing Beehive annual Beer Festival held each summer in early July is becoming one of the biggest and best pub beer festivals in Norfolk.

You can also book an event at the Beehive. Upstairs is a spacious function room available for hire. You can also play Pool and there is an additional dart board, which is usually used by the Ladies dart team on Wednesdays.
In summary, I like this boozer, the Beehive is as fine a Norwich Golden Triangle pub as any in the area.
